There is a 7-pound, 10-pound, 15-pound, 20-pound, 25-pound, and 30-pound option available for purchase. If you get a fillable or custom traditional mace, the weight could go up to more than 30 pounds, but for the time being, I’m going to stick with the standard steel maces.
Be aware, however, that when you first get a Steel Mace in your hand, a 10-pound mace will feel much heavier due to the uneven weight distribution of the mace and the way it is used.
For Newbies
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you are completely new to steel mace, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the steel mace is something that is helping you get back into movement after years of leading a sedentary lifestyle.
If you are just getting started with Steel Mace Training, the weight that I suggest beginning with is either 7 or 10 pounds. Why? Because training with this tool is different from training with others, you will need to first master the basics before attempting to replicate some of the cool stuff you see online.
I strongly suggest that you look for someone who can assist you either in your immediate area or online. Why? A coach can look at you in three-dimensional view while you hold a mace, and they will be able to provide you with a better idea of where to begin. You should be fine if you maintain your weight at 7 or 10 pounds, but if that’s not something you want to do, just stick with those numbers. Risk of harm avoided!
Regarding the Athletes
Even if you have Thor’s strength, that doesn’t exempt you from learning the fundamentals of the Steel Mace and earning technique points! It is necessary for us to allow sufficient time for our bodies to adjust to the Steel Mace, just as it is necessary when we first begin any other form of fitness modality.
Alternating between different weights
When you’re working out, it’s a good idea to keep in mind that you can totally have a variety of steel mace weights to change the intensity of the training you’re doing.
